Toby Porter, Chief Executive of Hospice UK said: "The recent energy support announcement offers some relief to hospices, however we are concerned that the discount will not be enough. A cap provided price security, but a discount limits how much hospices can plan and still leaves them vulnerable to market prices.
"Hospices use huge amounts of energy to care for people at the end of their lives. Even with discounts, they are still facing rapidly rising costs at a time when the communities who usually support them so generously may be struggling themselves.
"Hospices are a vital support to the health and care system, keeping people out of hospital and alleviating pressure on the NHS. Now is not the time to be worrying about how to fund these services.
"In the absence of long-term, sustainable funding, hospices will need more generous support so the cost of living crisis - or other future crises - doesn't affect the care people receive at the end of their life."
